Cochrane Library
    
The Cochrane Library is a pioneering resource which was initiated by the Cochrane Collaboration. The collaboration was formed to prepare, maintain and disseminate reviews of the effects of healthcare interventions, as well as assessing evidence related to prevention strategies and treatment. The Cochrane Library consists of a regularly updated collection of evidence-based medicine databases.The Cochrane Library consits of 7 databases.  The databases are:  The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reveiws (CDSR), The Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectivenss (DARE), The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), The Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews (CDMR), The Cochrane Review Methodology Register (CMR), The Health Technology Assessment Database (HTA), and the NHS Economic Evaluation Database (NHS EED). 
  
The NGC is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents.  The NGC is an accessible mechanism for obtaining objective, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines and to further their dissemination, implementation and use.
 
This site contains Critically Appraised Topics focusing on occupational therapy interventions.

OT Seeker is a database of systematic reviews and randomised controlled trials relevant to occupational therapy.

A free medical meta-search engine sponsored by the University of Texas Science Center at San Antonio.  It was designed for medical students to perform evidence-based research.  It only searches databases with recognized qualified medical information.

The Turning Research Into Practice database was created to better assist health professionals in easily locating the highest-quality material available on the Web - to help support evidence based practice.  Trip is a single locator tool for 43 evidence based databases including:  The Cochrane Library, Bandolier, POEMS, Occupational Therapy CATs, the Centre for Reviews & Dissemination databases(CRD), and more.  The categories of content include:  evidence-based synopses, clinical answers, systematic reviews, guidelines, and eTextbooks.

All original research articles published by BioMed Central are freely and permanently accessible online. All articles in the 196 journals are peer reviewed.

Owned by Stanford University. Highwire Press offers 2 million free full text articles in science and medicine. Journals are listed alphabetically but offer a date range of availability.
 
PubMed provides free access to MEDLINE, the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) database of citations and abstracts in the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, health care systems, and preclinical sciences. PubMed is easy to use; simply enter your search topics and click Go.
 
The NLM worked with the Wellcome Trust and the U.K. Joint Information Systems Committee to digitize the complete backfiles of important and historically significant medical journals. The fulltext content is made available through PubMed Central.

Stanford University's medical metasearch engine.  This tool brings together several types of resources including general search engines, medical indices, news sites, medical education, and medical imaging and multimedia sites.  The user can select up to 4 databases to search at one time.  An extensive offering of medical images can be found by selecting WebPath and/or PathAtlas.
