Description

This course discusses the normal and atypical aging processes and the social, physical and mental impairments that often accompany aging. The impact on occupations from the consequences of common diagnosis seen in this population (e.g., Parkinson?s Disease, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, CVA, orthopedic injuries, autoimmune diseases and dementia), will be discussed. The course also addresses the caregiver role, including current and future trends of reimbursement. We will address specific rehabilitation strategies employed in acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, and home care settings. Finally, the course will analyze the evidence supporting common interventions and outcome measures common in geriatric practice.
