In the United States approximately 1 in 4 people with a musculoskeletal injury develop chronic pain. Chronic low back pain, adhesive capsulitis, complex regional pain syndrome and other pain related diagnosis are often mismanaged with excessive pharmaceutical and surgical interventions with various results. The translational knowledge strategies covered in this course may help clinicians provide better care to patients with chronic pain and kinesiophobia utilizing the evidence-based interventions of graded motor imagery and mirror therapy to improve patient function and decrease pain.
