Description

This course begins with basic introductions and moves into necessary skills and knowledge needed to begin day observations of orthopaedic practice and surgery. Topics covered include critical thinking, medical errors and prevention, overview of healthcare, ethics, conflict management, cultural awareness, interpersonal communication. Students will be introduced to the history of the Orthopaedic Assistant profession and will be discussing the role of the OA, scope of practice and issues that affect the profession. The course will culminate with a case presentation where students will utilize the knowledge gained throughout the semester to conduct a medical history review and use critical thinking to determine potential diagnosis and management plan.
