Caregiver Training 1: Assesmentand Treatment of Dementia (CPE 9 251)
Term: 2013-2014 Academic Year Spring
This seminar will facilitate the understanding of Alzheimer?s disease and related disorders. Descriptive information on the increasing demand for caregiver training for individuals with Alzheimer?s and other dementing diseases are discussed with a specific emphasis on the transition that caregivers assume with their new role that they are unprepared and untrained for and how to impact their overall experience relating to their physical and emotional health. Basic strategies and guidelines for assessing and identifying challenging behaviors in the early, middle, and late stages of Alzheimer?s and related disorders will be introduced. Specific techniques and compensatory strategies to maintain function to optimize function will be discussed.
