Basic Craniofacial Seminar (CPE 9 730)

This seminar examines the common sources of headache and facial pains as related to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and muscles of mastication. An overview of clinical anatomy of the TMJ will precede a discussion of common disorders of the TMJ and masticatory muscles. The physical examination used to diagnose temporomandibular and masticatory muscle disorders will be discussed. The role of the physical therapists and dentists in the nonsurgical management of temporomandibular and masticatory muscle disorders will be reviewed. General discussion will include rationale for use of intraoral appliances and indications for surgery of the TMJ.
