In the acute setting, we are constantly using evidence based practice to treat our patients as well as educate staff and family. Utilizing evidence based practice is vital in the acute care setting due to the large variety of disgnosis we encounter on a daily basis, so we are able to offer the best treat plans to assist patients with transitioning to either home health care or inpatient rehab to prevent further decline. It's appreciated to have not only the USA database to access research articles, but also being apart of AOTA has really made a difference with finding
information to support my intervention plan. The therapist (OT,PT,SLP) really push providing quality care
and basing intervention on evidenced based studies, which has pushed me to inquire more and make sure I stay on top of new research.

Hi Michelle - thanks for the post. You forgot to post the reference for an article that provides evidence for what we do, so this post is incomplete.

I will caution you - A lot of what we do makes sense in acute care, but there is really little evidence to support it. Experimental designs, meta-analyses, and systematic reviews are really the only things that support evidence.
