Discuss how evidence based practice is used to support client interventions in this setting.  In APA format, list one article you used to support evidence based practice.
In the acute and inpatient settings here at AMH, my FWS is considered the "neuro guru" and treats most of the patients with neurological deficits.  She is NDT and Mary Warren trained, and has a long background of working with patients who have sustained CVAs, TBIs, craniotomies, MS, etc.  She is a very good therapist who only uses evidence-based practice in her treatment of patients, and often quotes research which she has performed.  Recently, we have been treating several patients who all have some form of tremors and/or ataxia. One of our initial goals whether it be a preparatory activity, long term management, or increasing overall function is to control the ataxia.  My FWS has a database of articles and evidence regarding treatment of ataxia; however, we were looking for more and different methods in which I found in the article cited below. Techniques from this article that we have employed include weight bearing, providing wrist support, wrist weighing, using weighted utensils for feeding, and separating visual tracking from motor movement, all which work on a patient-specific basis.

Hi Courtney - I'm so glad you've had a great "neuro guru" for you FWS :). My only caution is to always look for experimental designs and/or systematic reviews/meta-analyses to support intervention, not someone else's opinion on what the literature says.  Best clinical practice is NOT always research based!
