At the Children's Hospital, the use of evidence based practice is highly encouraged. As a teaching hospital, new and upcoming research concerning effective treatment for our patients is extremely important for providing the highest level of care. More specifically, the rehabilitation team (including OT, PT, SLP, Music/Recreation therapy, Child Life specialists, etc) hold a monthly "Journal Club". Each discipline submits a recently published research article to share with the rehabilitation team that can positively affect care for our inpatient rehab children. As part of our level II Fieldwork responsibilities, the OT students are also asked to provide 3 recently published journal articles related to a unique diagnosis or intervention we've seen during our experience.
The citation provided below is a commonly used intervention technique for our patients with neurological diagnoses, especially traumatic brain injury resulting in hemiplegia. The efficacy of CIMT has been shown not only in research, but in my own patients as well.
