Week 10 Original post: Fri 11/15/2013 at 12:15 AM
At my facility, evidence based practice is often encouraged. Although there are no formal meetings where research articles are presented, therapists usually find time to bring up topics to discuss during lunch. Many of the participants at this facility are veterans who have sustained traumatic brain injuries. It is important to incorporate the values that these individuals bring to therapy. It has been my responsibility to find evidenced based information related to veterans and their reintegration to the community. The following is an article that provides valuable insight into the needs of veterans post injury.

Plach, H. L., & Sells, C. H. (2013). Occupational performance needs of young veterans. American Journal of Occupational Therapy, 67(1), 73-81.

Hi Cindy- great statement on the importance of values in therapy - such an OT "thing" to address. I hope you actually found evidence about community integration. Based on the title of the article you included, it does not represent any evidence! It's more a description about needs, NOT an experimental design. Always look for experimental designs and/or systematic reviews/meta-analyses to support intervention, not someone else's opinion on what the literature says.
