Week 10 Post!! Original post: Thu 11/14/2013 at 9:25 PM

Discuss how evidence based practice is used to support client interventions in this setting.

Evidence based practice is used to support daily treatment session at my setting. Other students, including myself, complete in-service projects which better our understanding of specific diagnoses and appropriate treatment approaches. The latest EBP that has been beneficial is the changes in Medicare coverage and how it will affect occupational therapy services. I find that I have learned a lot about specific rules and regulations that I previously had little understanding. Therefore, EBP has helped me understand different approaches and possibilities to benefit my education and the progress of my patients.

Hi Laura - thanks for the post! However, you did not provide an article and you need to do so! You can e-mail it to me and I can cut/paste in for you.
Here is the article Laura e-mailed me:

Geusgens, C. A. V., van Heugten, C. M., Cooijmans, J. P. J., Jolles, J. R., & van den Heuvel , W. G. A. (2007). Transfer effects of a cognitive strategy training for stroke patients with apraxia. Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology29(8), 831-841.

I will provide one caution: when looking for evidence, always look for experimental designs and/or systematic reviews/meta-analyses to support intervention, not someone else's opinion on what the literature says. Most continuing education courses and many articles are descriptions only about what someone thinks. This does not support evidence! It provides a foundation for further "testing" through research. Your article DOES provide this evidence.
