From this outpatient pediatric experience, I have learned many things. I have learned that communicating confidently and effectively with parents/caregivers of children is vital to this particular setting and the communication skills which I have developed will positively impact my future interactions with patients and their caregivers. I have also learned a great deal about visual processing disorder and how it presents in children. The details I have learned about this speciality area will help me with treating clients with visual processing deficits in the future. The evaluation and treatment techniques which I have learned are now in my occupational therapy toolbox and because of this internship I have a skill that I did not have before.
