How many clients are you seeing daily?

On average, I am seeing about four patients on my own a day, and assisting with another four to five.

What are their diagnoses?

I have been fortunate to see many different diagnoses at Teton Hand Therapy, ranging from tendon repairs, Dupuytren's, amputations, CTS repair, ulnar nerve repairs at the cubital tunnel as well as in Guyon's Canal and ulnar nerve transpositions, humeral and radius fractures and metacarpal and phalanx fractures, trigger finger release, and many conservative treatment approaches to these conditions as well.

What is considered a full caseload for your facility?

None of the three OT's at THT work five days a week, and only one works full-time Tuesday - Friday 10 hour days. His caseload is about 12-15 patients per day. One other OT works 3 days/week and her caseload is 8-12 patients/day, and the last OT works 2 days/week and her caseload is about 12-15 patients/day. These numbers, however, only represent scheduled appointments. We also see patients on a "walk-in" basis directly from the hand surgeon down the street, which varies day-to-day, but averages five to ten. These patients are split up betwen whatever therapist(s) is/are there, so that boosts each of their numbers each day.

Discuss one strategy you are utilizing to help you work toward or maintain a full caseload.

One of our therapist will be leaving the end of October, so I will more than likely take on his caseload, or at least a majority of it, so he now is working closely with me with each of his patients to facilitate a smooth transition. We do this in various ways -- sometimes he'll ask me to start the treatment and then he'll step in towards the end, or other times, he'll have be assist with whatever he is doing. So, I might jump in and take goni measurements or administer some test like Phalen's for CTS, and then he'll ask me to explain to the patient what it is for and what the outcome means.
