Week 2 - Bulletin Board

- Where does occupational therapy fit in the organizational chart for your facility?

I am currently interning at Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation in Fleming Island. This outpatient rehabilitation center is affiliated with Wolfson Children’s Hospital located in Jacksonville. Wolfson Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in this region of Florida. Since the rehabilitation aspect is affiliated with the hospital there is a large organizational chart that fits the facility. Occupational therapy fits in along with physical therapy and speech therapy. There are 4 sites for children’s therapy that are affiliated with Wolfson. At each site there is a rehabilitation director. There is one director of rehabilitation services that is over those 4 directors at the sites. The site directors have monthly meetings with the director of rehabilitation services to discuss new information and issues concerning therapy. At Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation in Fleming Island there are 2 occupational therapists, 2 physical therapists, and 2 speech therapists along with the rehab director also being a speech therapists.

- Of the following categories, which best describes the type setting of this fieldwork experience?

Wolfson Children’s Rehabilitation in Fleming Island is a pediatric outpatient facility. The therapists at this facility are able to provide services to children ages 0-18 with a number of diagnoses. The main diagnoses that I have worked with thus far includes CP, Muscular Dystrophy, Autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, Downs Syndrome, different types of cancer, and limb deficiencies.

List three fieldwork objectives/ goals you and your fieldwork supervisor (FWS) have established. Choose one of those objectives and share how you believe this goal will be met.

  1. By the end of week 3, I will be able to make a 30 min tx plan for 5 patients and treat those patients for their 30 minute appointments.
    1. I will be able to meet this goal with staying organized and plan ahead. I have made folders for each child that I am potentially going to work with. My supervisors have given me the names in which I will work with each week. I take the time during down time in the day to brainstorm ideas for tx by looking at what they have done previously and their goals. This past week I treated 4 patients so I do not believe that adding 1 or 2 more for week 3 will be too difficult.
  2. Devise a home program with motor breaks for a family with 2 children currently being seen for mom to use at home during home schooling to regain the children’s attention.
  3. By the end of the 12 weeks, I will be able to treat several children each day along with writing their note in a timely manner.
