Description

This laboratory-based course focuses on therapeutic interventions used in pelvic health physical therapy through asynchronous content and synchronous guided laboratory learning experiences.Building on prerequisite knowledge of physical therapy screening, examination, and diagnosis of pelvic health conditions, learners interpret evaluation findings to design a comprehensive plan of care that implements evidence-based treatment strategies.Students develop hands-on competency in breathing and pressure management, neuromuscular reeducation, therapeutic exercise, movement retraining, and manual therapy approaches relevant to bladder, bowel, sexual health, pelvic pain, and pelvic girdle conditions. Emphasis is placed on trauma-informed communication, patient consent, safety, and clinical decision-making when progressing treatment strategies for diverse and special populations. Students integrate examination findings, outcome measures, and functional goals to construct and defend individualized pelvic health treatment plans through case-based scenarios and guided laboratory skill demonstrations. Opportunities for internal pelvic floor muscle assessment practice are available during this course.
