Description

This course is designed to prepare the student in the theory and clinical application of physical modalities. The physical principles and biophysical effects of cryotherapy, heat, ultrasound, electrical currents, water and debridement are presented as they relate to treatment for indicated pathological conditions. Emphases upon the principles of differential diagnosis are to be used in the selection/recommendation and application of appropriate physical agents.

About Your Instructors:

Dr. McGee joined the University of St. Augustine in 2004 as a contributing faculty member for the Master of Occupational Therapy Program.  She has increased her role at the university over the past several years and now is part of the full-time faculty team. She has over 10 years of experience in occupational therapy education and practice, and has enjoyed teaching courses such as biomechanical interventions, orthopaedic mock clinic, physical agent modalities, OT evaluation and assessment, and orthotics and prosthetics. She has presented at state and national conferences and is currently pursuing her PhD in Educational Technology. In addition to her faculty role, Elisabeth practices occupational and physical therapy at Florida Hospital Flagler, specializing in the hand and upper extremity.    

Dr. Lekas holds her BS, MS and Doctorate (OTD) in Occupational Therapy. She has 18 years of clinical experience in a variety of settings from acute care, rehab, outpatient and community-based programs with individuals throughout the lifespan from neonates to geriatrics. Her positions as lead therapist and Clinical Specialist at several Trauma I facilities and specialty neurologic institutes involved development and implementation of ICU/Early Mobility Programs, Practice Protocols, Clinical Informatics and continuing education training for both PT and OT practicing clinicians. She is credentialed in Physical Agent Modalities (PAMS).
