Description

Course Description: This course will define the scope of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), incidence and proposed etiology. Common diagnostic tests, treatment approaches and pharmaceuticals will be discussed. Occupational performance area deficits will be identified and contributory performance skills, patterns and client factors reviewed. Evaluation tools and methods of ongoing assessment will be introduced. This elective, on-line course is designed as an interactive course and there will be strong emphasis on cooperative learning. Occupational therapy doctoral students will examine the current research and diagnostic trends through scholarly articles, textbooks, web sites and interactions with other classmates. Course material will be covered in two modules: Module 1: Definitions and diagnostics; and Module 2: Impact of ASD upon occupational performance.
