Occupational therapy at Children's Hospital of New Orleans is included in treatment for patients as part of the rehabilitation team for acute patients, rehab patients, and the hospital also has an outpatient clinic.
My fieldwork at Children's is primarily in the pediatric outpatient setting. We see many kids that were previous patients at Children's Hospital.
Three of my goals I have discussed with my supervisor that I believe I can meet are:
1) Be more efficient in administering pediatric assessments as well as scoring and interpreting results. I have already had practice in my second week of work and have learned a lot.
2) Be more familiar with a variety of diagnoses that are commonly treated at Children's Hospital. The hospital has provided me, as well as school, with great resources that will help me meet this goal.
3) Build a quick rapport with the children as well as difficult parents in order to provide the best therapy possible for the child. I feel that I am becoming more confident already with treating the children and see that a friend relationship with the parents seems to be the best relationship in order for them to cooperate best with us.
