In this school-based setting, we work with high-functioning children to help them succeed in the classroom.  Two areas that we hone in on are sensory needs and social skills.  We run a few Social Sensory groups with children who demonstrate aggression in the school setting or act out based on sensory needs.  Some of the children that we work with have trouble staying in their seat, waiting to be called on, paying attention during a lesson, and cooperating with others.  We use evidence based practice in deciding what will be effective for the functioning of the group.  In children who are high functioning and have the cognitive basis to learn in a small group setting, these group activities are effective in helping children become independent with self-regulation.
