Please share/ discuss something you learned from this fieldwork experience you feel will impact your practice as occupational therapist in the future.

When children have trouble transitioning to and from therapy in a school setting, every second counts.  Half hour time slots makes it difficult to get lots of things done in therapy, including transitions.  One of the biggest things I learned from that facility was that therapy starts the moment you see your client.  For us, it was the moment we got up to the classroom to pick them up.  There's about a good five minutes of therapy time that you can add back into the mix when you make hallway transitions part of therapy.  For example, we play a funny finger moving game in the hall while we walk with kids who are working on fine motor skills. This really applies to all areas of therapy--including having attention to fill out paperwork, using appropriate social skills with front desk staff at an office, and walking small distances to therapy.
